About

Student Journey

Hi, I’m Nikita Belousov — a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman veteran and an Applied Mathematics student at Old Dominion University, graduating in May 2026. My academic focus is on statistics, numerical methods, and data analysis, with growing experience applying these skills to real-world projects such as baseball analytics.

My time in the Navy taught me discipline, teamwork, and adaptability — qualities that continue to guide my professional development. I enjoy working in environments where analytical problem-solving supports decision-making and drives improvement, whether in sports, business, or engineering applications.

I am multilingual and enjoy connecting with people from different cultures and backgrounds. Outside of academics, I’m always looking for opportunities to expand my skill set, take on new challenges, and develop projects that showcase my interests in data science and technology.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me — I look forward to sharing my work with you as I continue to grow both professionally and academically.

Coursework

Student Timeline

Numerical Methods

Focused on approximation techniques for solving mathematical problems that cannot be addressed analytically. Topics include root-finding, interpolation, numerical integration, differential equation solvers, and error analysis. Applied these methods using computational tools to solve real-world problems efficiently and accurately.

Entrepreneurship in Mathematics / Baseball Analytics

Explores how mathematical thinking and data analytics drive decision-making in business and sports. Applied statistical tools in baseball analytics — including OPS+, Run Expectancy, and pitching performance models — to evaluate player and team performance. Gained experience in using data to support strategic and economic outcomes.

Partial Differential Equations (PDEs)

Study of PDEs and their applications to physics, engineering, and applied sciences. Topics include Fourier series, separation of variables, Sturm-Liouville theory, and wave/heat equations. Emphasis on analytical solution techniques and interpreting physical meaning behind models.

Large Data Analysis

Introduction to data processing and statistical analysis of large datasets. Focused on data cleaning, visualization, regression modeling, and predictive analytics using tools such as MATLAB, RStudio, Python, and SAS. Developed practical skills to extract insights and support evidence-based decisions from complex data.
